TCB: Mohamed, who introduced you to tennis?
MB: My parents played tennis at the Helioplis Sporting Club in Cairo, Egypt. They introduced me at age 6 but I was playing soccer at the time. At age 8 I finally decided to take up tennis and became quite a good junior as #1 in Egypt's 12 and Under category. Soon thereafter I was selected to participate in the Best of 15 Sports Boarding Camp at age 13. I dropped out 2 years later and received a 1-year scholarship to the John Newcomb Academy in San Antonio, Texas.

TCB: What did you do when that year was over?
MB: I went back to Egypt and played at the Helioplis club again. My mentor was Adley Elshafei, son of famous Egyption tennis legend Ismail Elshafei. I became #4 in 16 and Under, then #7 in 18 and Under. Played the Arab Olympic Games and won Team Gold.

At 18 I started helping with coaching and became a coach 6 months later. Privately, I worked with the top Egyptian juniors. One of those kids joined the Weil Tennis Academy and he told me all about it. When I heard that Mark Weil was looking for a coach in 2006, I applied and was accepted. Became Head Coach in 2010 and Mark asked me to add the responsibility for College Placement in 2014.

TCB: What do you like working at Weil Tennis Academy?
MB: I like the family aspect of the organizatyion and the great relationship with my co-workers. Mark is a great boss. I live working with the juniors on and off the court, to live with them, get to know them personally.

TCB: What is your racquet and string of choice?
MB: I play with a Wilson Pro Staff andf with Luxilon strings.

TCB: Thank you, Mohamed Badran.
