FROM THE CLUB'S WEBSITE
"Where Club Life is a Family Tradition" Envisaged during the 60's golden era of tennis by one of the first international sport celebrities, Jack Kramer saw the need to create a hub for developing US tennis champions in a family focused club environment. Partnering with Vic Braden in 1962, The Jack Kramer Club was created hosting 13 tennis courts, fitness center, olympic swimming pool, an iconic South Bay Clubhouse, basketball courts, playground, childcare center, and a focus on building tennis champions. This was the beginning of a legacy that continues to flourish atThe Jack Kramer Club.

In the fall of 1970 , after many years of leadership, Jack Kramer entrusted members of the club to carry on the dream of having national tennis players develop and launch their careers from their home court, The Jack Kramer Club (JKC).

Due to the passion and commitment of building US tennis champions, The Jack Kramer Club is proud to have mentored national champions, Tracy Austin, Pete Sampras, Lindsey Davenport, Elliot Teltscher, Kimberley Po, John Austin and Derrick Rostagno.

JEFF TARANGO, DIRECTOR OF TENNIS
Jeff Tarango is a retired American professional tennis player. He was a Top 10 doubles player and a runner-up at the 1999 French Open Men's Doubles tournament.

Tarango turned professional in 1989, after completing his junior year at Stanford University, where he won two NCAA team titles. During his career, he won 2 top-level professional singles titles and 14 doubles titles. Tarango reached two Super 9 quarterfinals: Rome in 1995 and Miami in 1998. His career-high world rankings were No. 42 in singles and No. 10 in doubles. He was runner-up in the men's doubles at the 1999 French Open (partnering with Goran Ivaniševic).

Tarango retired from the main tour in 2003 and devoted his time to coaching, broadcasting for BBC, ESPN, Tennis Channel, Fox Sports and DirecTV. He also hosts a charity event in La Jolla for the Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. Tarango is currently the Vice Chair for the AAC on the USOC (Governance Committee). He has been a member of the Davis Cup Committee for 6 years within the USTA. He still makes occasional appearances at professional events, including the 2008 USA F21 Futures event in Milwaukee. He also commentates for BBC Radio and in particular for their extended coverage on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. After professional tennis, Tarango worked for the AON Corporation with Theodore Forstmann, Andy Roddick, and many other society notables.

Jeff's bio summary on the club website.

Jeff Tarango coached Maria Sharapova when she was 16 and 17 years of age.

Jeff Tarango was Martin Blackman's college roommate
at Stanford University.

Jeff Tarango started at the Jack Kramer Club after the 2016 US Open when Dennis Rizza resigned after 31 years as Director of Tennis. Currently residing in Palm Desert, Dennis continues to coach privately at JKC two days each week. He has been one of the premier junior coaches in the country, having worked with most of the top junior players to come out of the South Bay. Dennis, has arguably produced more college level players than any other coach in the country.

Other tennis professionals working at the club are: Cecilia Fernandez Parker, Rylan Rizza, Trey Mason, Kip Brady, and Frederique Carver. See individual bios here.

JKC is an equity club with currently 256 memberships. Jeff says, "I like working here. The names, the history, very exciting. From Pete Sampras to Tracy Austin and Victoria Azarenka, who practices here." The Jack Kramer Club Junior Development Program calls itself the "premier hub of U.S. junior tennis training and coaching." (Junior Tennis page)

Jeff's goal at JKC: Make the club more of a finishing school for kids that may have been started in their tennis development at other clubs. "Pete Sampras told me once, Jeff, there's a lot of hitters of tennis balls out there, but only a few players." Jeff strives to find those few players. He's hired a few international teaching professionals to add a new flair to the club's offerings. Fully committed to his quest to find great juniors, he says, "I want to draw the best talent, make the best talent to understand the difference between good and great."

Many courts at the Jack Kramer Club have bronze plaques embedded in the ground close to the net.
