Steve's tennis career

Born in Ft. Worth, Texas, Steve's family moved to California when he was only 6 months old and then on to Alaska, where he played baseball and started to play tennis at age 14. Within 3 months he became the no.1 player at his high school. Upon his return to California Steve dove head first into tennis and played up to 6 hours per day. The family was in the habit of housing high ranked tennis players from Sweden and Mexico - the ideal trainings partners for him.

Steve played for Fullerton Junior College and then for CalState Fullerton, before joining the USTA Pro Circuit at age 20. He traveled on the tour for a while and had some wins but at age 21 he was offered the job of Director of Tennis at Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside, west of Los Angeles.

Steve worked at Canyon Crest for 7 years, from 1981 to 1988, and then began traveling with Mexoco's no.1 junior player before moving to Kobe, Japan, where he taught tennis for 4.5 years.

Upon returning to Southern California, Steve ran Canyon Lake Tennis Club in Orange County for about 10 years. It was 15 years ago when Canyon Crest Country Club in Riverside offered Steve his old position agin and he accepted.

ClubCorp is a phenomenal company

Steve says, "I've been working for Club Corp a total of 22 years and it's a phenomenal company to work for. In fact, my wife works here at the club as Membership Relations Manager. I love the fact that Club Corp is giving me lots of freedom to make decisions. I am involved in budgeting and create reports on a weekly and monthly basis."

Steve's distinguished career includes serving 7 years on the Board of USPTA District 5 and putting over 150 kids into college scholarships. His mantra teaching on the court: "Tennis is all about lift, low to high!"

Today he still plays USTA adult league at the 4.5 and 9.0 mixed level. He is very proud of his 3 kids. Daughter Nicole is a 3-time and daughter Brooke a 2-time College All-American. His son Roger became a United States Army Green Beret at age 26 and is currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
