I am an LTA Licensed Level 5 Master Club Coach. I also have a Bachelor of Science degree in 'Professional Practice in Tennis Coaching Management' which I received a distinction for. I have been coaching for over 15 years and have been playing competitively for 25 years in New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Scotland, USA and England. My coaching style is relaxed and informative. My coaching philosophy is that of competition. My view is that if you are engaging in competition you are giving yourself the best possible opportunity to improve. With improvement comes enjoyment. I am an LTA Licensed Level 4 Senior Performance Coach. I am attending my LTA Level 5 Master Club Coach Qualification as well as a Bachelor of Science degree 'Professional Practice in Tennis Coaching Management'.

I combine working as the Head Coach at Farnham Common Tennis Club with being the Head Coach at Chalfont St. Peter Tennis Club and Stoke Poges Lawn Tennis Club in South Buckinghamshire.

My coaching and management style is relaxed and informative. My coaching philosophy is that of competition. My view is that if you are engaging in competition you are giving yourself the best possible opportunity to improve. With improvement comes enjoyment.

Others describe me as highly self-motivated and hard working. I have experience of being Head Coach and managing several clubs throughout the UK.

Responsibilities

Running a range of clubs at primary and secondary schools and colleges

  • Coaching the Performance Juniors, working to the criteria of Tennismark
  • 1:1 coaching of adults as well as group coaching
  • 1:1 coaching of junior beginner, intermediate and advanced players
  • Group Coaching beginner, intermediate and advanced players of all ages
  • Leading funding applications through the LTA and Sport England
  • Leading/Managing a team of coaches
  • Running a competition programme
  • Managing each tennis clubs' respective committees
  • Managing and working with the LTA
  • Managing and liaising with sponsors and stakeholders
  • Managing and liaising with County Sports Partnerships and Council's

Achievements

  • Building up the Club's links with 6 local schools. The Clubs are full with waiting lists and have resulted in new members at all three tennis clubs.
  • Instigating, developing and heading up the clubs' junior and adult coaching programmes.
  • Developing and mentoring coaching assistants to assist with the coaching programmes.
  • Successful with Sport England and LTA funding applications for floodlights, mini tennis lines and small grant awards.

  • Providing clubs in Cheshire, Shropshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Stirlingshire, North Wales, Surrey and London with professional coaches
  • Monitoring the performance of the coaches and setting KPI's for coaches and tennis clubs
  • Communicating with clubs and coaches to discuss progress on goals and targets
  • Maintaining contact with the clubs to ensure that they are happy with the service provided

  • Building the business from scratch.
  • Receiving positive feedback from the clubs' committee, coaches and members
  • Increasing participation rates across the U.K at various venues

Q: Stephen, when did you start playing tennis? Did someone teach you?
A: I started playing tennis in my garden at the age of 3. I had my first tennis lesson at the age of 6.

Q: When did you start teaching tennis? Have you been certified for teaching?
A: I started coaching at 17 years old. I am PTR and LTA Master Coach certified.

Q: When was International Tennis Coaching Ltd founded? Are you the owner?
A: ITC Ltd was found in 2002. I am the owner.

Q: Is International Tennis Coaching Ltd located at a private or a public tennis facility?
A: ITC Ltd is a private company that operates at private and public facilities.

Q: How many courts do you have and what surface are these?
A: We coach on dozens of courts and the surfaces are usually Macadam* or TigerTurf**.

Q: Are there other teaching pro's in your organization?
A: We have a team of 9 teaching pro's.

Q: Do you teach adults and children?
A: Yes. Both.

Q: What are your programs?
A: We run programmes to tailor all levels, ages and abilities ranging from 3 year olds to 103 years olds.

Q: What are the challenges for you International Tennis Coaching Ltd?
A: Becoming internationally renowned is a challenge. There is a lot of competition out there.

Q: Where do you want to take International Tennis Coaching Ltd in the coming years? Do you have plans for the future?
A: We would like to become a household name in the tennis world.
