SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT
Carla Suárez Navarro captured the biggest title of her career at the Qatar Total Open, charging back from a set down against 18-year-old Jelena Ostapenko to triumph, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
"I started a little bit nervous and she started really good," she said in her on-court interview. "It's not easy to play like this, and I lost the first set but I believed, I fought, I run, and finally I won."
Ostapenko had beaten the Spaniard in their only prior encounter at last year's WimbledonChampionships, and started in similar form with a nearly flawless first set in her second WTA final, cracking eight forehand winners en route to winning the opening set.

DOUBLES CHAMPIONSHIP REPORT
Carla Suárez Navarro returned to the main stage of the Qatar Total Open to play the doubles final with Sara Errani, having just won the singles title over Jelena Ostapenko a mere hours before. Pushing No.4 seeds Chan Yung-Jan and Chan Hao-Ching tough over two sets, the sisters ultimately defeated the Spaniard and Italian, 6-3, 6-3, to win their second tournament of 2016.
"Today's match wasn't easy, despite the score," elder sister Yung-Jan said during the on-court interview. "They're for sure very tough opponents who've been playing really well. I was sick and having a fever, coughing, but we're happy to make it until the last match!"

Dominic Thiem capped a sublime month of February with his fifth career ATP World Tour title and first at the 500 level, turning aside Bernard Tomic 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco. Thiem finishes with a 13-1 record in February, having prevailed in Buenos Aires and reaching the semi-finals in Rio de Janeiro. The 22 year old, who will rise to a career-high World No. 14 in the Emirates ATP Rankings, is the first Austrian to emerge victorious at the tournament since Thomas Muster completed a four-peat in 1996. Tournament abbreviations

WC
= wildcard (given by the tournament to a player that could not get in on their ranking, or did not enter in time.

PR = protected ranking. This is used when a player has been out for a certain period of time due to injury (I think it's at least 6 months) and their ranking slips down to where they wouldn't get in on their current ranking.

Q = Qualifier.

A = Alternate. Used in qualifying when a player withdraws before their first match. Also used in main draw if there was no qualifying draw and the draw was full before the player withdrew.

LL = Lucky loser. A player that loses in qualifying (usually the final round unless none of the final round losers sign the lucky loser list) and gets into main draw when a main draw player withdraws before their first match.

SE = Special exempt. A player who signed into qualifying of a tournament, but was still playing in the previous week's tournament at the time the qualifying draw was done. This player can get a special exempt into the main draw the following week.
