Thirty30 Tennis
A New Alternative Scoring Method Created by Mark Milne

Thirty30 Tennis
A New Alternative Scoring Method Created by Mark Milne

Mark Milne, creator of Thirty30 Tennis.
Mark is from Arbroath in the North East of Scotland, one hour south of Aberdeen

I hope that you might be interested in the new alternative Thirty30 tennis scoring method that I have created to shorten tennis matches and make them more dynamic and exciting.

Please excuse the impersonal nature of the message below, but I am contacting many people and this is the most efficient way to conduct my request for trialing of Thirty30.

I am looking for people to try the new scoring method and to spread the word.

Thirty30 tennis is the innovative and complementary alternative scoring method that brings tennis into the 21st century producing shorter more exciting sets of tennis - every game starts at 30-30 (announced "Thirty30") and a set is completed in no longer than 20 minutes.

There is an appetite within tennis for shorter format matches and the ITF Rules of Tennis now include alternative scoring methods, i.e. "sets to 4 games, etc." (FAST4) and the "Match Tie-Break to 10 points" (Tie Break Tens), to shorten matches.

I summarize the simple rules of Thirty30 tennis:

Everything is identical to the traditional scoring except:

(1) EVERY game played starts at "30-all" (30-30) and the score of "Thirty30" is announced at the start of every game.

(2) If a set reaches 6 games all, a '9-point tie-break', i.e. first to 5 points, sudden death at 4-4, is played to decide the winner of the set by 7-6.

Order of serve is: A B B A / change ends / A B B A A (9 points maximum).

(3) During a set, players serve alternative games and only change ends initially after 2 games, then after every 4 games and at the end of each set, i.e. change ends after 2, 6 and 10 games during a set.

Order of serve is: A B / change ends / A B A B / change ends / A B A B / change ends / A B + 9-point tie-break

(4) During a match, players alternate who serves first at the start of each set.

For a best-of-3 sets match, Player A serves first in sets 1 and 3 and Player B serves first in set 2, i.e. A B A.

For a best-of-5 sets match, the order is: A B A B A.

There is no tie-break played at 6 games all in the final set; the final set is won by leading by 2 clear games as per traditional scoring.

The "No Ad" rule is NOT used, i.e. 'normal deuce' is played as per traditional scoring.

The "No Let" rule is NOT used, i.e. as per traditional tennis.

A set of Thirty30 takes in general no longer than 20 minutes to complete resulting in a best-of-3-sets match being completed in 60 minutes and best-of-5-sets in 90 minutes.

Thirty30 can reinvigorate tennis, encourage competition and help grow the game worldwide.

"30-30" starts are nothing new - "30-30" starts have been used over many years to give players experience of playing more "big" points, used as warm-up drills, used during rain delayed tournaments to shorten matches, etc. but what is new is that I have now 'packaged' it as a possible match format and created a new brand of tennis - "Thirty30" ("T30") - It says what is does - every game starts at "30-30", thus producing a shorter, more intense tennis match.

Thirty30 (T30) can be described as the tennis equivalent of cricket's Twenty20 (T20) and can be used to reinvigorate and grow tennis in a similar fashion.

The beauty of it is, is that it is very simple and the transition between playing traditional tennis and Thirty30 tennis is seamless for players, audiences, officials, etc.

The Thirty30 scoring format still produces a fair test of skill and ability and the best player on the day still wins. This is extremely important as any new format must maintain the credibility of tennis amongst players and audiences.

I am trying to build a case to apply to the ITF to get Thirty30 accepted for trial purposes as per the 2018 ITF Rules Of Tennis 'Foreword':

Appendix V (Alternative Scoring Methods) lists all known and approved alternative procedures and scoring methods. In addition, on its own behalf or on application by interested parties, certain variations to the rules may be approved by the ITF for trial purposes only at a limited number of tournaments or events and/or for a limited time period. Such variations are not included in the published rules and require a report to the ITF on the conclusion of the approved trial.

I am convinced that Thirty30 is better than Tennis Australia's FAST4 format (sets to 4 games, No Ad points, etc.) and is fairer than the Match Tie-Break (10 points) (Tie Break Tens - 10 minutes 'match' is too short) currently being more widely used (mainly in doubles) as a 3rd set match decider to shorten matches, as the Thirty30 format retains the important traditions of tennis better.

I am hoping to prove this by trialling Thirty30 tennis all over the world.

Please try it and send me your feedback. Your feedback is very important to me.

Any comments and help would be very much appreciated.

Best regards and thanks,

HEAD to refund Speed tennis racquets to consumers
After Djokovic wins US Open

HEAD-sponsored player, Novak Djokovic, won his 3rd US Open and 14th Grand Slam title on Sunday. Thanks to Djokovic's success, many consumers across the country will be getting refunds on the purchase price on their new Speed Tennis Racquets.
The Speed Wins-You Win Campaign, which was unprecedented in the tennis industry, gathered strong consumer and retailer support across the country during the summer. The promotion celebrated HEAD's new Graphene 360 Speed Racquet Series launch on July 20th. The promotion encouraged consumers to purchase a Speed racquet and register on the head.com/speedwins website. If either Djokovic or Alexander Zverev, who endorse the Graphene 360 Speed Series, won in New York all registered consumers would get their racquet free.
