IS AN OPEN SKILL SPORT |

From the
JMTA web site
In September 2010, tennis legend John McEnroe, in partnership
with SPORTIME Clubs, launched the John McEnroe Tennis Academy
(JMTA) in his hometown of New York City at SPORTIME Randall's
Island in Manhattan. SPORTIME Randall's Island is the flagship
location for the Academy and for SPORTIME's twelve clubs.
John's passion and belief is
that great players can be developed in urban settings, while
still having the opportunity to live at home, to pursue their
educational goals, and to participate in a variety of sports
and extracurricular activities. Through various channels, including
community outreach, the Academy works to recruit the most talented
and the most highly motivated young athletes in the New York
City Metropolitan area, and beyond.
Johnny Mac and JMTA Managing
Director, Bennett Schlansky, have assembled a world-class team
of directors including: Co-JMTA Directors Patrick McEnroe and
Lawrence Kleger; JMTA Performance Director Richard-John Mensing,
Jr.; JMTA Director of Mental Toughness and Performance, Dr. Dom
Lausic, PhD; JMTA Director, Westchester Annex, Fritz Buehning;
JMTA Director, Long Island Annex, Michael Kossoff. |

Johnny Mac Tennis
Project
Mission:
The Johnny Mac Tennis Project (JMTP) changes young lives by removing
the economic and social barriers to success through tennis. A
501(c)(3) nonprofit, JMTP introduces tennis to thousands of under-resourced
New York City area kids, particularly those living in East Harlem
and the South Bronx, two communities immediately adjacent to
our base at Sportime Randall's Island. JMTP kids are first introduced
to tennis as a life-long health, fitness and social activity.
For our most dedicated young athletes, ages six to 18 years old,
JMTP funds scholarships to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA)
which provides a pathway to success through competitive tennis,
leading to college scholarships, careers in the industry, and,
for a few, professional tennis careers and, perhaps, Grand Slam
titles. |
Johnny Mac Tennis
Project
- Since JMTP was founded in 2012,
4,700 students have participated in free, 32-week tennis programs
integrated into their school day
- 12 public schools from East
Harlem and the South Bronx are enrolled in JMTP's free community
tennis programs
- 204 students have been awarded
scholarships to the John McEnroe Tennis Academy
