The Club

Lakewood Country Club, founded in 1912, is one of the oldest clubs in the Southwest, located just northeast of downtown Dallas. The facility is an Equity Club and states on its web site, "The purpose of the Club is to provide social and recreational activities for its Members."

It was reported that the club's location in Dallas was rated by CNN as one of the Top 10 neighborhoods in the country.

Lakewood Country Club started out 103 years ago as just a golf club, adding fine dining a while later. Tennis was added with 6 outdoor hard courts in 1975.

For many years or even decades one of the biggest challenges the club had was parking and last year they decided to do something about it. They constructed an underground parking structure and put 8 hard courts (plus a 36 ft. red ball court) on top of it, raised just a few feet above ground. The new courts were officially opened last month. The parking problem is now solved and 2 additional courts are setting the club up for the expected growth in the coming years.

The Tennis Staff

Tennis Director Adrien Chabria is in his 17th year working for Lakewood. His certifications: USPTA Elite Pro and USRSA Master Racquet Technician and Tester. Born in New York Adrien played Junior Tennis and came to Lakewood in 1997. The Past President of the Dallas Professional Tennis Association with a staff of 5 fulltime and 3 part time pro's at Lakewood says, "Really good tennis professionals are very important for the growth and success of a tennis operation." Adrien and his staff, together with the staff of the large golf department at the club, must be doing something right. There is a 2 year waiting list for all classes of membership!

Adrien adds, "I love my job at Lakewood. And I love this Dallas community. I very much enjoy eaching at all levels, interacting with our fantastic membership and a great staff, and running social events."

The Tennis Program

Lakewood Country Club offers a full tennis program for its members.

Adult Tennis - Many teams participate in different leagues, such as USTA Adult Leagues, Tennis Competitors of Dallas (TCD), Metroplex League.
The club also offers Fit Tennis, similar to Cardio Tennis, run by a USPTA-certified pro who is also an Exercise Physiologist.

Junior Tennis - All 8 courts at Lakewood feature blended lines, Ten & Under Tennis is an important factor to the 200% growth junior tennis experienced over the past few years here. Particpation in USTA Junior Team Tennis and organizing of Junior Tournaments is a given.

The Social Program

The social calendar at Lakewood Country Club ranges from regular mixers to tennis parties with live bands on the tennis courts. Very popular:

  • "Orangeball Social" on smaller courts for parents / children.
  • Happy Hour every Friday night on all 8 courts
Adrien Chabria adds "Our General Manager, Raymond DeTullio, and the Lakewood Board of Governors (made up of shareholding members) were instrumental in planning our new tennis facility. On the heels of rebuilding the dining areas, kitchen and golf course, this project was a part of an $11M renovation including a gorgeous new swim complex. I am proud of this place!"
Congratulations to Lakewood Country Club for becoming our New Tennis Network of the Month for November 2015.
